Trollshaw Forest

Trollshaw forest, also known as Hairy Feet Waitomo, a family owned farm where Peter Jackson shot the troll scene in The Hobbit Unexpected Journey. Warrick and his family were so welcoming to everyone on our tour. The showed us the whole breakdown from scouting the land, excavation, to film sets used for the Trollshaw scenes. After 3 months of filming they had 6 minutes of footage, which doesn't seem like a lot, but Peter Jackson told them that it is very rare for one location to have that much film time.

The landscape was breathtaking, the vast rolling hills, and green pastures made you wander in your mind. Warrick and his family brought us through the spots used for those scenes in the Hobbit, the farmers house, the warg scene, where Bilbo was given Sting, and where Ganldalf breaks the rock formation to freeze the Trolls.

If you have seen Rings of Power, and can remember the scene where Gil-galad stares up at the night sky while the meteor man falls from the sky, that rock formation was filmed here as well.

Fun fact, if you have ever seen the Dilly! Dilly! Bud Light Commercial that was filmed on Warricks farm, neat huh?
