When In Wellington
After out witting the dumb Trolls, we made our way to Wellington for the last few days on the North Island. Wellington is the most livable city in the world, where everything is within walking distance. Extremely windy! Wowzers!
As we got into Wellington, we stopped by the Weta Cave, where we did some retail therapy, checked out some hand crafted swords like Glamdring and Orchrist. One of our tour traveler goers named Josh purchased the last forged Orchrist for a very pretty penny! After shopping we had a special walk through the Weta Cave, where we saw movie props from The Lord of The Rings, District 9 and World of Warcraft. We had the opportunity to hold swords and props that were used in the films, from Uruk-Hai to Elvish blades, even the morgul blade that Mr. Frodo was stabbed with by the Witch King of Angmar.
Sadly we were not allowed to take any photos inside the cave.
We then made our way to a cinema where we had the honor of hearing from the prop masters, casting directors and master sword makers and their experience working on the films. I had the opportunity of meeting Ma'a Nonu, who was an All Blacks Rugby player, who now plays for the San Diego Legion. What a humble dude, he was so nice and soft spoken and had no worries taking a photo or two.
When we got back to our hotel we explored the city, went to the Te Papa Museum, were we saw exhibits of wild life and sea creatures that were native to New Zealand. We took the time to walk through the Gallipoli: Scale of Our War, a walk through of the WWI battle in Gallipoli that New Zealand participated in. Weta Workshop was hired to create the massive and realistic figures portrayed throughout the exhibit.
During the war a total of 2,779 Kiwis lost their lives on Gallipoli.
After exploring Wellington we, had an early wake up call the following morning to hop onto a ferry to venture to the South Island!
